Sir Winston Churchill said this in
a parliamentary debate 1921 June 14:
“The Wahabis*, Churchill noted, “profess a life
of exceeding austerity, and what they practice
themselves they rigorously enforce on others.
They hold it as an article of duty, as well as
of faith, to kill all who do not share their opinions
and make slaves of their wives and children.
Women have been put to death in Wahabi
villages for simply appearing in the streets.
It is a penal offense to wear a silk garment.
Men have been killed for smoking a cigarette…”
* HISTORY NOTE: In July 2004,
the 9/11 Commission identified Wahabism
as a cause of Islamic Terrorism.

Again, we are not seeing any material change in the right-left balance no matter what types of permutations of parties are merged or running separately.
Lieberman is a monkey wrench in the works. I agree with his opinion that the Chareidim should join the army at least in some amount. It is a simple matter of human responsibility. And he would like that bill passed that was agreed upon in the previous Knesset for a certain amount of conscription, or else loss of funding for yeshivas. But his new idea of not wanting to form a right wing government is somewhat troubling. He is a very strong right winger himself. And the question is going to be whether his dislike for religious coercion will outweigh his like for a strong and unified Israel. And I think it’s going to be the latter. I don’t think he’s going to give up land in order to get the Chareidim to go to the army. But it is hard to tell which issue he feels strongest about.
