These updates from Jeremy are very useful. I’m sure many people are getting value from them. To using horse racing parlance, we are in the final straight of the 2013 Israel Election Race. Lots of jockeying for position, and some sneaky tactics by various players whilst the stewards are closely following proceedings from the tower. All pretty normal stuff in modern political terms. However I believe there is a glaring fault with the dominant government system in the West. Democracy ensures everyone is equal, so no one can give orders or criticise. A decent command structure breaks down. Perhaps in the near future the Knesset could assume more of an administrative function whilst another chamber, i.e. upper house/sanhedrin, would decide on matters of national security, orientation, philosophy, mission and foreign affairs.
Constitutional monarchy anyone…
P.S. During these wintry days in the State of Israel, with great rain mind you, I suggest some people consider watching Irving Kirchner’s “Raid on Entebbe”. (The most realistic and best one of the lot by far.) There are a couple of pertinent lines in the film that are very relevant to the current political zeitgeist and the nature of government in general.
At 1:27:50, Lt.Col. Yoni Netanyahu, played by Stephen Macht, replies to Brigadier General Dan Shomron’s (Charles Bronson) comment “And they’re still negotiating !” “That’s democracy !” (Mocking, smiling at the delay, stalling, inefficiency of the cabinet deliberations.)
At 1:04:59, Shomron addressing Lt. Gen. Mordechai Gur, played by Jack Warden……”Morda, we’re wasting time, this mission needs a goal NOW to pull itself together.”
