The municipal elections on October 22nd 2013 is the Israeli version of midterm elections.

When Israelis went to the polls on February 10, 2009, to elect the 18th Knesset it was decided that the elections for the 19th Knesset would on October 22nd 2013. The 18th Knesset chose to call for early elections on January 22nd 2013, ten months early.

There will be an election on October 22nd with 5.5 million Israelis going to the polls in 191 municipalities to choose their mayors and city councils. Israel’s political parties will be participating. Bayit Yehudi submitted the most lists in cities and towns with 85. Likud and Labor submitted 60 lists each and Yisrael Beytenu is running 46 lists. Yesh Atid, Shas, United Torah Judaism and Meretz will also run in selected cities. This is a chance for voters in most cities to decide if they will stick with their selections from ten months ago.

Israeli analysts will judge each party based on their gains and losses in the municipal elections just as American analysts judge Democrats and Republicans on Congress midterm elections.

I have had a few requests about the location of links from past shows.

I decided to bring them together into one post.

Below you will find 8 and a half hours of Knesset Jeremy on Yishai Fleisher show from Nov 2nd 2011 to today.

Jeremy Saltan discusses entry into politics by Yair Lapid (son of Tommy Lapid who founded the Shinui Party), Noam Shalit (father or Gilad Shalit), and Rabbi Aryeh Deri (former Shas Party leader now starting his own party).  Knesset shananigans result in Anastassia Michaeli (Yisrael Beitenu MK) throwing water in an education committee meeting after she was harshly told to “shut up” by MK Ghaled Majadle (Labor).  The role of the media in Israeli politics as media personalities are in many parties and this is increasingly the path into political power.  Finally, MK Ayoub Kara brings a gun into the Knesset?!  Learn about Knesset member immunity

The Next Round: Will Netanyahu Retain His Title?

Knesset Jeremy Readers,

Next Friday I will release the last Knesset Jeremy Weekly Average.
This means Knesset Jeremy Weekly Average #15 will be the last poll related post on Knesset Jeremy due to the Israeli law.
Israeli law: 18 January 2013 – after this date the publication of polls and predictions is prohibited.

Knesset Jeremy Weekly Average #15 will include the usual poll average of national polls taken from Jan 13-18.
I will also include my own prediction which will be based on polls, but will also include non-scientific hunches.
It will be interesting to see which one is closer to the final result.
I will be happy to comment on the thread up until election day based on my thoughts on Jan 18.

Election/Poll season brought many new readers to Knesset Jeremy and I hope to see you stick around after the 19th Knesset starts. Knesset Jeremy is the only place where you can get daily updates from the Knesset’s plenum sessions in English.

Thanks,

Jeremy Saltan
